80% of visitors to Costa Rica are tourists, approx 10% of whom come for Sex Tourism. It’s status is neither legal nor illegal. Yet, Sex Workers are denied basic citizen rights.
PROTOTYPING DURING RESEARCH
Sex work is a taboo topic in Costa Rice. Asking questions with a heart rate monitor that outputed light and haptic feedback everytime someones heart rate went high was a nice ice breaker! Not to mention it surprised people when they felt uncomfortable about a topic.
I decided to go into an co creational process with the sex working community to understant ‘their desires’ rather than ‘needs’. What did they want? Was it basic rights? Or was it to be simply heard with dignity?

MY ROLE
This was a solo 2 months project. I conducted in depth research with different stakeholders (governement/public/sex workers/corporates/hospitals), used constant protoyping from digital to physical (research stage to the final outcome), co-created and ideated with a group of 30 sex workers.
OUTCOME
This project showcased real life stories of sex workers in a 3D sound space. After the stories are experienced people are sent to real time voting page. This project pushed the Ministry of Education in Costa Rica to provide Sex Workers with a free educational course. For the first time, this group became on the map.
LEARNINGS
For more systematic issues, it is sometimes best to use an artistic approach as a solution (more provocative). Constantly iterating by prototyping with your target user group was really insightful, and led to creative improvement. Lare corporates and government are disinterested in engaging with 'taboo' topics as it may displease stakeholders (Coca-Cola / Conservative Male Political Leaders). One has to be strategic and smart when approaching them, and communicating with them.

CHALLENGE
After conducting both primary and secondary research that included a series of interviews and news from different countries, my team and I discovered that couples struggled during the pandemic to live and work in a confined space together. Our team consisted of 2 motion designers, a service designer and myself!
INTENTION
We decided to use motion design and video interaction design prototyping to create a mockumentary that explored how couples could stop getting tired and frustrated of one another during lockdown.
I created the story line, wrote the script, did part of the filming, edited using premier pro, illustrator and after effects.
After Effects / Premier Pro / Illustrator / Photoshop / Storyboarding / Body storming / Mask Mock Up
RESULT
A mockumentary that explored how a interactive communication mask could help couples be kinder to one another during the lockdown.
FINAL CONCEPT
LEARNINGS
I leant how do showcase complex digital interactions on video by using after effects. Also that mocking up a physical form and integrating it with video prototyping can be a powerful way to demonstrate a concept.

CHALLENGE
In our fast paced lives, we forget to celebrate the good moments and reflect on the tough ones.
INTENTION
My team and I decided to explore how we could capture these moments in a more human and tangible way. Off screens. My team consisted of a creative coder, industrial deigner & motion designer.
One Week Collaboration with Motion Designer (Singapore), Creative Coder (Costa Rica) and Industrial Designer (India)
PROTOTYPING
MY ROLE
I bodystormed, translated common human emotions into interactions that could be applied to how we interacted with a physical object. This was done by using different sensors and prototyping gesture design.
RESULT & LEARNINGS
We built a physical diary where people could log their daily emotions in with a physical gesture. At the end of the year - these recordings would be translate into a musical tune that reflects their mood throughout the year.
I learnt how to use 3D modelling programs such as Blender & Auto desk, as well as how to use a 3D printer. Also the importance of body storming gestures when designing a physical to digital product.
